As of March 18, 2008, two-thirds of UPS FREIGHT workers who were eligible to join the Teamsters have signed cards.
As of March 27, 2008, the total number of drivers and dockworkers who have signed cards seeking to join the Union has risen to over 9700.
On May 12, 2008, the number of UPS Freight(Overnite) workers who had signed intent cards to join the Teamsters Union exceeded 10,700
The Ohio Conference of Teamsters has established a partnership agreement with various Joint Councils and Local Unions in the state of Ohio. This partnership is committed to assist these Locals in the organizing efforts involving DHL. Local 407's Organizing Committee, along with Officers and Agents, have been assisting other Ohio Locals to organize DHL employees. Since March of '04 there have been 230 DHL employees, added to the ranks of the Teamster Union, involving six different successful campaigns in Ohio( Toledo and Columbus jurisdiction). There are additional campaigns in progress at this time involving various Locals in Ohio. Local 407 is currently offering assistance in these campaigns.
There are approximately 8000 non-union DHL employees nationwide. The various partnership agreements in place across the country have resulted in over 2200 DHL employees voting to become Teamsters. It looks like DHL will provide a huge pool of new Teamsters to help bolster our ranks.
In February of 2008, the Teamsters reached a tentative agreement on the first National Contract with DHL Express. This historic agreement will cover about 8000 members across the country.
Organizing meetings are held every Saturday before the regular monthly meeting. The meetings are held at Local 407's Union Hall, 3320 Superior Ave E at 10:00 AM.
